Okapis are jungle dwellers from Africa's Congo rain forest. They are shy and secretive, living in dense foliage. Their bodies are a rich brown in color with black and white zebra-like stripes on the legs and a white face with black lips and nose and a brown brow and bridge of nose. Their tongue is long and purple, their ears large.
This animal was unknown to western science until the late 19th and early 20th century.
