Amethystine Pythons in GURPS

Morelia amethistina

Amethystine pythons, also called scrub pythons, can reach enormous lengths, but are quite slender for their reach. They display a shimmery violet irridescence in direct sunlight, giving them their common name. Underneath the irridescence, they have a complex zig-zag checkered pattern of yellow-tan and black.

Amethystine pythons live in humid forests and jungles. They are Australia's largest snake, but can also be found on New Guinea. They prey on bats, possums, rats, birds, and the occasional lizard. Amethystine pythons are agile climbers and will often hunt from an overhanging branch, striking at prey beneath them or snagging flying animals from the air. In Australia, the species is protected by law, but the island snakes are sometimes killed for food or out of fear.

There are reports of amethystine pythons reachin Giant size, but this is unusual. Most are Large or smaller.
