Marmosets in GURPS

Callithrix sp., Callimico goeldii, Mico sp., Callibella humilis, Cebuella pygmaea

Marmosets are dimunitive monkeys found in South American jungles. They have long tails which are not prehensile, lack opposable thumbs, and have claws rather than nails. They eat mainly plant exudates, such as sap, nectar, and tree gum, but also eat arthropods, eggs, and small vertebrates (Callimico goeldii is an exception, as it eats fruit instead of sap).

Marmosets are mostly monogamous, living in extended families where only one pair breed and the rest help look after the children.

Marmosets typically give birth to non-identical twins. Oddly, the twins are genetic chimearas - each twin will contain cells that are genetically identical to its sibling, so that each individual is made up of two populations of cells, each carrying a different genetic code. This extends to their germline cells, so that, for example, a female marmoset may carry and birth babies which are genetically her brother's.
