Erythrocebus patas

Patas monkeys live in the Sahel region of Africa, a semi-arid region just south of the Sahara with seasonal monsoons. It is the fastest runner of the primates.Their shoulders and cheeks are gray, their back, upper legs, rump, neck, ears, crown, and tail are red, and their lower limbs and lips are light gray, with a short moustache on the lips. Some individuals have black brows and eye-masks.

Patas monkey groups are matrilineal and matrilocal, with one adult male. Unattached males live in bachelor groups. When foraging, one or a few members of the group maintain watch. because of a lack of trees in their environment, if a predator is spotted the patas monkeys run away rather than climbing.
