False Scimitar Cats in GURPS

False scimitar cats are a group of extinct cats which are morphologically similar to the scimitar cats but are more closely related to modern cats than to the saber tooth tribe. They were powerfully built with short tails. They had greatly enlarged cutting fangs. The expected hunting stategy of these cats was to grapple and pin their prey, then use their fangs to cut open the throat or abdomen. In game terms, these teeth have an armor divisor of 0.5 which is ignored if the only armor is skin - but not of the cat bites against a bony part of the body such as the skull, face, chest, or vitals.

There were several species and genera of false scimitar cats.

• Dinofelis was a jaguar-sized cat that lived in Eurasia, Africa, and North America throughout the Pliocene and into the early Pleistocene.
• Metailurus was the size of a small leopard. It could be found in Eurasia, Africa, and North America during the Miocene, Pliocene, and Pleistocene periods.
• Adelphailurus was cougar sized and shaped, and lived in western North America during the miocene.
